Candidate Profile

The Senior Welfare Manager is responsible for ensuring the delivery of an outstanding welfare and pastoral service in which Welfare Managers are following the correct health, safety and safeguarding procedures put in place the ensure students' safety and well-being. 

The job holder must be caring, compassionate and have the ability to work calmly whilst under pressure. 

Assuming resposibility for the safety and well-being of students who are away from home is a huge responsibility and the job holder will need the wide-ranging skills, experience and expertise to provide a first-class welfare service for students. 

The ability to think quickly, show common sense and pay attention to detail in many different and often unpredictable situations is fundamental to this role. 

We aim to give students an educational, culturally-enriching and memorable summer experience in a safe and supervised setting, we are looking to employ professional staff who will accept this responsibility, and have the necessary wide-ranging skills, experience and commitment to help us achieve this goal. 

Qualifications

  • Applicants with any medical training or professional qualifications in childcare, social work, education, counselling or psychotherapy are particularly welcomed
  • First aiders are particularly welcomed
  • Driver - current, clean driving licence

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with children in a pastoral and/or welfare context
  • Experience of working in a residential context
  • Experience of dealing with international students is preferred
  • Experience of managing staff

Compensation

£1,020 per week. 

Statutory holiday pay is paid pro-rata with each salary payment on top of the stated weekly salary. 

Accommodation and meals are provided. 

Working Hours

Working hours will be variable. 

Shifts will include early mornings, late evenings and weekends. 

Senior Welfare Managers are entitled to one full day off per week (day variable). 

Working Day

The Senior Welfare Manager occupies a vital role within the Welfare Team and assumes overall responsibility for the care, well-being and safety of the students at all centres. The Senior Welfare Manager is pivotal to ensuring the success of the course and is responsible for upholding the good name and reputation of Bede's Summer School. 

You will be the main point of contact for any welfare matters that arise that the centre Welfare Managers need support in managing and dealing with. The job holder must be committed to providing a first-class welfare, pastoral and medical care service that not only ensures students' physical and emotional well-being, but also enables them to feel motivated and empowered to seize every opportunity whilst at Bede's. 

The Senior Welfare Manager will work closely alongside the Designated Safeguarding Leads to support all Welfare Managers, Senior House Parents and House Parents. 

The working day is long, involves lots of contact time with Head Office, Centre Directors, Welfare Managers, Senior House Parents and House Parents which can be very challenging, but it is also varied and fast-paced, and of course, living and working with young people can be immensely rewarding.
